Curling hair with a straightener
I have a hair "how to" question and am searching for some answers! Alot of my friends can curl their hair using their flat iron, and I have no idea how!? Does anyone have any helpful tips on how to do this or a video you would recommend?
Hehe, her voice is so soft! I've never tried really curling my hair with a flat-iron but I'm thinking I might now that it's almost long enough to... Up till now I've just used the flat iron to curl the ends of my hair under so my hair's not all crazy flipping out weird, basic stuff. Thanks for the vid, Abbey!
I've tried to curl my hair with my straightener, but have failed...I'll have to try her method out on my hair...thanks for sharing Abbey!
Just a pleasant reminder to have some sort of protective product in your hair when you use any heated tools like flat irons, curling irons, etc. Anytime you do that you basically fry your hair - yikes.
Thanks for the video post!
Ooh, that's a cool video - I'll have to give it a try, but I'm not sure I have the patience! I curl my hair sometimes with a flat iron, but I do it differently.
My way makes beachy waves rather than pronounced curls like that. I take a small section of hair and twist it, spray some product onto it, and then run the flat iron down the twisted section.
Like I said, it produces waves rather than actual curls, but I've liked the effect I've gotten! Not sure if it's actually good advice to pass on, but it works for me. :)
It takes practice for sure. I prefer the curl stick by Enzo in a 25mm (1") size. If you are set using the flat iron to curl, try putting pieces of your hair in pin curls and use the flat iron to set it quickly. I think this method produces a better look, however, it takes more time.
Great research on the video!! abbey!!! Great idea Denise!!, pincurls - so simple....
I have found that you can take larger sections than what the girl in the video clip did and still get great results. It's all in the wrist movement. Definately use heat protection and becareful not to burn your fingers!! It's also a lot easier to use this technique on someone else but it can be done!!
Ok, now I'm really curious about all these techniques mentioned and am going to have to try something new on my hair! It's long and layered, and I either straighten it all the way or use a regular curling iron to curl the ends of the layers. Pretty basic stuff, but now I can't wait to try something new! Thanks everyone for all the helpful info.

Yes! I've wondered about this too. My curling iron recently bit the dust, leaving me just with my flat iron. I did a little youtube investigating and found this girl:

It'll probably take me some practice, but it looks like a good trick.
