I'm in Need of Advice
I've been attending the University of Louisville going on for two years now, and honestly...I'm not liking it. Well, maybe I could...but I feel like I'm not going to succeed with it, and I'm completely unmotivated by the whole atmosphere by the university. I don't want to study the things they're telling me I need to study...So I'm searching for something else. My true and ultimate passion is photography, but while I do photography, I'm cutting peoples hair and doing their make-up 'n' everything like that... I do it for the people who I have shoots with even. So...I'm wondering if maybe I should pursue a career in the cosmetology field? Or should I continue on this collegian path other people told me I should always follow? And if I do that...should I transfer to a cheaper college and try to get a business degree so that I can open up my own portrait studio? (Honestly, I'm afraid of the business degree. . .cause I'm horrific at math.)
Anyway...What should I do...?
I think you should purssue photography and make-up, if this is your passion than just it being your passion in itself will make you lots of money, I think personaly your waisting your pressious time doing something your not realy happy with. All that time and effort you are spending on something you are not interested in you can use that along with your passion to make lots of money. I once herd this saying; If you purssue what you love doing, than you'll never work another day of your life. Also a 27yr old millionare on oprah said the best advise he could give is; to try doing what you love to do for at least 5yrs and see where it takes you. I have a friend who loves make-up and knows everything there is to know about make-up she is online everyday just to see what top make-up lines are comming out with next. she wants to go to school for it, I always tell her that people like you don't need school to teach you what you already know, all it is realy is a certificate or something to show those people who may not belive in you that you know what your doing, but realy its all in your passion for what you do that makes you an excelent canadate for a great job.
I agree that the passion and skill are really what it's all about, but that certificate from the school could make the difference between whether you can do it professionally or it stays just a hobby! I think attending school for makeup is a great way to just give your career that little "boost" it needs to become amazing and everything you dreamed it would be.
So, your present system is getting u down, Put it on pause and explore your photograpy. It may be the break u need. Sounds like u want to be an all in one photo shop. I agree with the above statements. Try it for even a year, everyone needs a back up career anyways, They tell people in sports that, why not for others. Don't worry about the Math, Most businesses run off programs anyways, You can get a small net book and a small business oporating program. Do a little reserch B4 u put down money on school programs. So u want to do photoes mostly, What are the licences that are required in your area. How much time and money do u got to invest in your passion. Be real with yourself, Are u willing to do the work on your own do u need a helping hand or stuctured environment. I would set aside some time. get a note book and gather infomation even if its 30 mins here and there and see what its going to take to acheive these dreams given your current situation and just Go for it. Give yourself the Green light. Work around your obsticles, When u do something u love its a joy not a chore.

if you're unhappy with what you're doing you should stop and do what you love. i had someone tell me don't do something others want you to for the money or to make them proud of you, do it because you love to do it and will always be motivated. so if you don't have a photography degree you might consider getting that and a business associate degree, it will take some math, but you can always get a tutor to help you out. In the end, if it's something you love, it will be worth it.
