Hi Liz!

If I read your question correctly - were you looking for wage info in Wisconsin? There is general info here: http://www.bls.gov/oes/2008/may/oes_wi.htm#b39-0000. You can check out average salary info for some of the different cosmetology fields. Tips and benefits will really vary based on lots of factors, like location/size/type of salon, competition in the area, and how many clients you have.

As far as advancement, it's going to depend a lot on you. Your level of committment to your clients, customer service, and passion for cosmetology is what's going to get you far & making the most money. Best of luck to you in your career!

Wages and tips in WI

Not sure what type of setting you are working in? Spa? Salon? Medical practice? As a veteran in the industry, be sure not to place too much focus on the hourly wage $ - remember there is more to "compensation" than that. Take for example - Health insurance. If you had to pay that out-of-pocket - that could be up to $600 per month. How about putting money into your retirement account? You may not be thinking retirement now...but earning $20 an hour is not the golden egg - if you are not properly putting some of it away for the nest of your future! How about "free procedures"? What about vacations and paid holidays? As a self-employed person - I don't get any of those perks! When determining an "average" wage, one needs to look beyond the numbers and ask – what else?
