Esthetics and Skin Care

Esthetics, or aesthetics, involves beautifying the skin through facials, analyzing skin types and needs, makeup artistry, microdermabrasion, facial treatments and skin care regimes. Many estheticians also perform spa treatments for the rest of the body such as body wraps, polishes, aromatherapy, foot reflexology, waxing, eyebrow shaping and eyelash tinting. Many cosmetology schools and beauty schools offer esthetics classes, where beauty students can learn through classroom discussion and hands-on training in beauty salon environments. Some schools even offer "advanced courses," which are more detailed classes covering specialized esthetics topics and which prepare the student to take state-licensed board exams to become a paramedical esthetician.
